| THE FINE WINE TRIO |
|
REMONT STUDENT JAZZ CLUB |
| Late in the evening of October 26, 2000, Gene
Perla, a splendid American double-bass player, and his Fine Wine Trio proved
just how well jazz goes with the atmosphere of little jazz clubs. The more
cigarette smoke and the more live tunes flowing from the tiny stage directly to
the audience, the better it all gets. Gene Perla, Bobby Kapp (vocals and drums)
and Rob Bargad (vocals and piano) charmed the crowd with their charismatic
straightforward manner as well as with the character of the drummer (a hat in
the fashion of our own Lew Jaszyn and the familiar mustache). But to the
passionate audience even more appealing and much more important than the
trios image was the music itself. Suggestive, expressive and touching,
their tunes reverberated powerfully with emotion. One simply cannot remain
unmoved by the bluesy jazz ballads sung by Bobby Kapp. What we need is just
more music like that at next years Jazz Jamboree. Przemek Psikuta jazz forum 12/2000 |
